3's a Magic Number
School was a field of landmines for me. Some of the things that held me back academically were misunderstood and left undiagnosed in the 1970’s. A teeny Catholic school where two grades shared one classroom and one teacher wouldn’t have been equipped to attend to such needs anyway. But there was always hope before the start of each new school year. Maybe things would be different.
This dress represents the feeling of the first day back at school. The unbridled optimism that classmates would be kinder and schoolwork would land lightly and easily. And I wouldn't be mortified to read in front of the class, nor would we have flashcard drills.
Lovely is the feeling of crisp new folders and a box of 24 crayons that were all so beautifully unbroken.
